Wall insulation in Lubbock TX - walls filled tight, rooms that stay even

Outside walls cold to the touch, a bedroom that never cools off? We fill empty walls through small holes so rooms hold steady.

Unfinished room with cream insulation between wooden wall studs and roof trusses, plus windows and exposed wiring.

Can you insulate the walls of a house that's already built?

Yes. Wall insulation for an existing home in Lubbock usually means filling each empty wall cavity with blown-in insulation, loose fill blown through a hose, through a few small holes, so the rooms along your outside walls stop running hot in summer and cold in winter without anyone tearing out drywall.

If one bedroom never matches the thermostat, or an outside wall feels cold when you lay a hand on it in January, there's a good chance nothing is in that wall at all, or what's there has slumped to the bottom. Work in the attic won't fix that alone, because the heat is moving straight through the wall itself.

The price mostly moves with how many walls we're filling, which side we go in from and whether old wiring or lead paint has to be dealt with first, and the schedule turns on that same groundwork, since a wall with wiring trouble waits until it's fixed. When a job needs a permit, we get it from the city where the house sits and handle the paperwork, and if it isn't clear, we call that city's building office and ask before we start. Your own figure comes in the written estimate after I've looked at your walls.

What happens after you call about your walls?

I've run this business since 2021, and I come out to look at the job myself, because walls are hard to judge over the phone.

I look at your walls in person

I check the outside walls, a few outlets and the age of the house, and talk through what I find while you're standing there. Ask whatever you want, as many times as you want, before you decide anything.

A written estimate you can read at home

After the visit I send a written estimate that says which walls we'd fill, which side we'd go in from and anything that has to happen first, like wiring that needs fixing. You can take your time with it and call me with questions.

Our own crew, then a walkthrough with me

Our own crew does the work, and we're licensed and insured. When they're done, I walk the finished walls with you so you can see what we did, and satisfaction is guaranteed on every job.

How we handle wall insulation on an existing house

Most of the work on a wall job happens before we drill anything. I start with the age of the house, because homes built before 1980 can fall under lead safety rules depending on how much the work disturbs the walls inside or out, and we settle that with you while we plan. I also look for knob-and-tube wiring, the old wire strung on porcelain knobs, since the electrical code doesn't allow insulation on or around it and those walls can't be filled until it's dealt with. Then I walk you through whether going in from inside or outside makes more sense for your house, and our crew fills the walls.

Walls are usually one piece of a bigger picture. Drafts around outlets, trim and the spots where walls meet the floor or attic keep pushing air through even after the cavities are full, so a lot of homeowners pair this with air sealing services, which close those gaps before or alongside the insulation. If your house has a basement with bare walls, basement insulation takes the same careful approach below ground.

  • A look at house age, old wiring and wall condition first
  • A plain answer on going in from inside or from outside
  • Every empty cavity on the agreed outside walls filled
  • Roof leaks or bad wiring flagged, not covered up
  • Air sealing alongside the walls when drafts call for it

What our crew does at the wall

Once you've agreed to the plan, the work itself is fairly simple, and each step is there to keep the fill even and the mess where we're working.

  1. Cover the floor and contain the dust

We put down covering under each wall we're working on and keep the area closed off, because blowing fill kicks up dust that would otherwise drift through the room.

  2. Drill near the top of each cavity

Each space between the studs gets its own small hole near the top, so the fill drops all the way down and packs up from the bottom.

  3. Fill it tight

We blow the insulation in dense enough that it won't settle over the years, since loose fill that settles leaves empty pockets in the wall.

  4. Plug, patch and clean up

We plug and patch every hole, then clean up the dust and stray fill before I come back to walk the job with you.

Questions about wall insulation in Lubbock

Can wall insulation be blown in from inside the house?

Yes, and going in from inside leaves the wall's drainage plane, the weather barrier behind your siding that sheds water, untouched. Going in from outside breaks that layer, so it has to be patched or fully replaced, and the right side depends on how easy the walls are to reach and what shape that layer is in. If you're already planning new siding, energy guidance points to that as the best time to add a layer of insulation across the outside of the wall too.

How long does blown-in wall insulation last?

Blown-in insulation is rated to last 60 to 80 years when it's installed properly. That rating rests on the install, so how well the walls are filled decides whether you actually get that long life out of it.

Does a contractor have to register with the City of Lubbock to work on my house?

Building contractors and remodelers do, even though Texas itself doesn't license them. The City of Lubbock requires them to register with its Building Inspection Department, which takes proof of a $100,000 commercial general liability policy or a $20,000 compliance bond, so it's fair to ask whoever you hire about it.

How much does wall insulation cost per square foot?

Installing blown-in wall insulation usually costs about $4 to $4.50 per square foot across the US. That's the going rate for the insulation work itself, not our price, and things like patching siding, old wiring or lead paint steps change what a given house needs. The figure for your walls comes in the written estimate after I've seen them.

Insulating walls in Lubbock and nearby cities

The city requires a permit before any building work its codes regulate, and its remodeling list names jobs like window replacement and new circuits but not wall insulation, so the list alone doesn't settle your job. For more specific permit questions, the city lists two numbers, 806-775-2087 and 806-775-3155. Lubbock has also adopted the International Energy Conservation Code along with its other construction codes.

We're based in Lubbock and do the same wall work in the cities around it, including Wolfforth, Slaton, Levelland, Plainview, Littlefield and Brownfield. Across the area, a lot of our calls come from older houses with a room or two that never feel right, and the groundwork comes first on those just like it does here.
