Insulation Contractor in Lubbock, TX - Sealed Attics and Rooms That Feel Even

Airlock Lubbock Spray Foam Insulation is an insulation contractor based in Lubbock, TX. We seal leaks in your attic, walls and crawl space first, then add blown-in or spray foam so hot upstairs rooms and cold floors even out.

Spray foam insulation fills the exposed wall framing around a plastic-covered window in an unfinished room.
Loose-fill insulation covers the floor of a long, wood-framed attic beneath exposed roof trusses.

How Lubbock houses shape an insulation job

Many of the Lubbock calls I get come from older brick ranch houses in the established neighborhoods. They usually have a few inches of old blown-in insulation that has settled flat over the years and ductwork running across the attic. The newer subdivisions on the south and west sides of the city bring a different call, usually a hot room over the garage or an upstairs that never cools down like the rest of the house. We see the same mix close by in Wolfforth, and we do the same work there.

In an older house the job usually starts with what's already up there, because insulation that got wet from an old roof leak or filled up with droppings has to come out before anything new goes in. After that we seal the gaps and keep the eave vents clear, so the attic can still breathe once it's full.

What we do for Lubbock homes and buildings

Working in Lubbock, from permits to price

Permits in Lubbock come from the city's Building Inspection Department. It issues them for altering or repairing a building and wants each one in hand before work begins whenever a code covers that work. When your job needs a permit, we get it and handle the paperwork. If I'm not sure whether it needs one, I call the department and ask before we start, so it's settled before our crew climbs into your attic.

The price of an attic job here turns on how many inches are already up there, how much has to come out, how many gaps need sealing and whether foam makes sense for your house. The age of the house plays in too. The schedule turns on the permit, if there is one, and on anything I find that has to be fixed first. Your own figure comes from the estimate I write after looking at the job with you, and I look at an attic the same way whether it's in Lubbock or out in Slaton or Levelland.

  • Texas doesn't license building contractors and Lubbock has no business license of its own, but the city requires contractors to register with it. Registration is the check worth asking about here.
  • To register, a contractor shows a $100,000 liability policy or files a $20,000 compliance bond, and the registration goes void if that coverage lapses. It's fair to ask whether a contractor's is current.
  • Wiring belongs to a licensed electrician, and the state licensing department licenses them. If I find old wiring or a can light that needs work, I'll tell you to get it fixed before we insulate over it.
  • We measure what's already in the attic and check the edges as well as the middle. Coverage that's deep in the center and thin over the outside walls is something we find often.
  • Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates. In most Lubbock attics, sealing the gaps and topping up loose fill does the job, unless your ductwork runs up there.

Questions Lubbock homeowners ask about insulation

Can I pull my own building permit in Lubbock?

Yes. If you own the house and live in it as your homestead, the city lets you get your own building permits, as long as you or an immediate family member does the work. If the house is a rental, the owner can get building permits only for structural work and has to hire out any mechanical or electrical work. Whoever holds the permit is responsible for knowing the rules that cover the work.

Where are the flood zones in Lubbock, and do they matter for my crawl space?

Lubbock's flood zones generally sit next to the playa lakes and the Canyon, and the overflow paths between playas count too. The city notes that houses outside the mapped floodplain can also flood after short, hard rains, and a house inside it has about a 26% chance of flooding over a 30-year mortgage. If water has ever been under your house, I'll look at the crawl space before we talk insulation, because new insulation over soaked material keeps the problem around.

Do we have to leave the house while you insulate the attic?

Usually not for blown-in insulation, because the work stays in the attic and you, the kids and the pets can stay home. Spray foam is different. You'll be out until the re-entry time passes, which is when it's safe to come back, and I'll tell you how long that is for the foam we're using before you book.
